Using LinkedIn to generate new business leads

Have you ever looked at LinkedIn and thought "how can I generate new business leads here?"

A common mistake that people make when they engage with LinkedIn is believing that it’s only useful to find jobs or networking with old friends that they haven't spoken to in years. WRONG! It's so much more than that.

LinkedIn is one of the best ways to generate new business leads. In fact, 90% of B2B buyers visit LinkedIn before contacting a company, which makes LinkedIn an essential channel for businesses to connect with prospects.

For most businesses, lead generation is a key part of life and LinkedIn is one of the best social media platforms for doing that. We’ve worked with many companies, helping them to expand their contact list and boost sales and here is our advice for growing your network and creating new business leads on LinkedIn:

  • Make the most of your profile. Ensure it is up to date and relevant. If someone lands on your profile, will they instantly understand who you are and what you do?

  • Invite people to connect who you meet in real life and online. It’s a great way to stay in the minds of potential prospects or partners. Continue conversations, arrange follow ups and stay in touch.

  • Join relevant industry groups and participate in the discussions. This is a great way to get involved in conversations and emerge as an industry expert, offer help, and become recognised for what you can offer.

  • First impressions count! Ensure what you post is accurate and represents how you want to be perceived. Think about your tone, your language, and the content topics you share. What will your audience think?

  • Post content that caters to your target audience. Identify who you want to target and then share content that will interest them. Give them something that will help them, entertain them, or reward them. Irrelevant content will only result in your losing followers.

  • Be consistent. Post regularly and using recurring content themes so your audience learns what to expect from you.

  • Respond to comments on your posts. Don’t leave people hanging. If you’ve put in all the time and effort to raise your profile, don’t ignore people if they show some interest. Answer questions, thank people for compliments and carry on the conversation where possible.

With a little effort and some smart and strategic use of LinkedIn, it's possible to generate leads, grow your audience and boost your business.
