So, I am now 6 weeks into running my own business and it has been a fun, scary, insanely busy, stressful and rewarding journey so far. I was unexpectedly made redundant at the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown and rather than panic and kick-start the frantic job search routine, I decided to channel all my energy into my own startup enterprise.
For years, I had considered becoming my own boss and starting my own marketing agency, but it had never been the right time...I now know that the "right time" was never going to present itself. Instead, I had to throw myself in at the deep end to discover it, and I have . The right time is NOW!
Within 24 hours of announcing on LinkedIn that I was available to take on clients, I had received so many messages that it took a day to get through them all. Almost immediately, I started setting up Zoom meetings and calls and pooling all my resources and ideas to present my services in a concise and relevant way - suitable for a variety of clients, with hugely differing needs.
As I talked to prospective clients (some of which were ex-customers, suppliers and colleagues), about what I could offer, my skills and my experience, my confidence quickly grew and I found myself "selling" myself and my services.
Although it was just me working hard from an office, the work kept coming in and I could see that this could become more than just me taking on some freelance projects - this was the beginning of KopyKat Marketing & Communications!
